Australian Operations

We operate three mines in Australia- Agnew/Lawlers, St Ives and Granny Smith, all located in the Eastern Goldfields Region of Western Australia. These mines employ over 1,600 staff on both a residential and a fly-in fly-out basis.

We have been operating in Australia for over a decade since acquiring the St Ives and Agnew gold mines in 2001. In October 2013 we significantly expanded our presence in Australia through the acquisition of the Granny Smith and Lawlers gold mines from Barrick Gold. The acquisition of these mines, known as the Yilgarn South Assets, provides an additional 452,000 ounces of annual production, 2.6 million reserve ounces and 1.9 million resource ounces, making Australia Gold Fields' largest regional production centre accounting for 40% of total production.

In November 2016, Gold Fields entered in to a 50% Joint Venture agreement with Gold Road for the Gruyere deposit. The deposit will be mined as an Open Pit, and mining is due to start in 2019.
